Welcome to our special website celebrating Kidlington and Hampton Poyle 800
This is the time to reflect on 800 years of history in our two villages, celebrate all that goes on now and look forward to the future. The Parish of Kidlington with Hampton Poyle invites you to take part in these activities over the coming year.
Clearly with the current coronavirus situation all our forthcoming events have been postponed for the foreseeable future. But don’t worry – we will be back (perhaps like the Olympics holding the rest of our 2020 year in 2021). In the meantime we wish everyone safety and peace.
Events which did happen in 2020
Events started with an Epiphany Tea on January 8th when more than 40 of us sat down to a delicious spread.
Then we had our “official” launch at a special Launch Service, with the theme “Sing a New Song to the Lord”, held in St Mary’s Kidlington on January 26th. The service was led by the Bishop of Oxford, Steven Croft, and the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Tim Stevenson, was also present. Representatives from many community activities in our villages participated and we finished with a glorious “anniversary” cake. This was cut, using the Lord Lieutenant’s ceremonial sword, by him and two members of the congregation who were celebrating their birthdays that day – Pam Cooper and Ruby Graham.
That was followed by our Candlelit Dinner and Silent Auction on 1st February. St Mary’s Kidlington was transformed into a beautiful dining hall, where we enjoyed excellent food and wine served by delightful and efficient staff. Bidding for the auction continued throughout the meal and all lots are now with their joyful owners. Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate with us, and especially to the wonderful team who created such a momentous evening.
Other celebrations planned for the year included an Antiques Afternoon, a Bingo Night & Supper, Open Gardens weekend, an Olympic-themed Fete, a two-week festival of music in October, various other musical performances and a December “Follow that Star” with three camels.
If you would like to organise any other event during the year, then we’d love to hear from you.

- an accessible toilet and servery for St Mary’s Hampton Poyle
- an accessible community hall, with office, meeting room and modern facilities behind St Mary’s Kidlington
If you would like to donate to these projects, please see here.
